Royal Institute of Management under the auspices of the Green Public Procurement in Bhutan (GPP Bhutan) project conducted the 2nd Training of Procurers (TOP) on Green Public Procurement from 19th to 22nd July, 2016. The overall objective of the trainings is to sharpen the understanding on GPP and learn in an interactive way on how to integrate environmental and social criteria into the procurement cycle.

The trainings were provided for a mixed group of professionals – engineers, procurement officers, finance officers, planning officers, and program officers – who were from civil service, constitutional bodies, state-owned enterprises, and civil society organizations. A total of 36 participants (15 females and 21 males) attended the training representing 24 agencies.

The training programme included peer-to-peer learning, group exercises, field visits to local industries and group discussions. Extensive learning-sharing amongst participants and between participants and facilitators provided insights into field experiences on procurement system. Site visits to wood based industry, metal fabrication and green roads augmented the training through practical exposure and life demonstrations.

Participants noted that the training was informative and useful as an introduction to concepts such as sustainable procurement and life cycle thinking that were new concepts for most of the participants.

The trainings were collaboratively facilitated by project officials from GPPB partner organizations. The round 3 of the training is tentatively slated for October end, 2016.
